Marc dedicated more than 26 years to the City

of Berkeley and the community he so faithfully served. Over the course of his fire service career, he responded to countless emergencies, including the Loma Prieta Earthquake while serving with the Piedmont Fire Department and the Oakland Hills Firestorm as a member of the Berkeley Fire Department.

Mestro was deeply committed not only to the fire service, but to the people around him. He was known for his generosity, compassion, and steadfast support of others through years of union leadership, community fundraising, and advocacy for first responders. Continuing even after retirement, he sought to uplift and inspire others by raising awareness about PTSD and occupational cancer with remarkable courage and resilience.
