LODD: Arrowhead Interagency Hotshot Captain Brian Hughes
The Sequoia and Kings National Park is saddened to announce the loss of one of its firefighters in the line of duty.
Brian Hughes, captain of the Arrowhead Interagency Hotshot Crew, died on July 29, 2018 while fighting the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County. Brother Hughes was working on tactical firing operation in an area of high tree mortality. He was struck by a tree and passed away before he could be transported to a hospital. He was 33 years old.
Brother Hughes has been a member of the Arrowhead Hotshot Crew for four years. The elite 20-member crew, one of two hotshot crews within the National Park Service, is based at the Sequoia and Kings National Park.
Brother Hughes is the second California firefighter to die on the Ferguson Fire. CAL FIRE Heavy Fire Equipment Operator Braden Varney died July 14.

Memorial Services
Services for Brother Hughes will take place on Saturday, August 4, 2018 in the Valdez Hall of the Fresno Convention Center. The services will begin at 11 A.M.
