LODD: Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Firefighter John Martinez
It is with great sadness that Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and the United Firefighters of Contra Costa County, Local 1230, announce the passing of our brother, Firefighter John Martinez. Firefighter Martinez succumbed to his battle with cancer on November 12 with his family by his side.
Firefighter Martinez was diagnosed with occupational-related cancer in 2022. He joined the Con Fire family as a firefighter on October 2, 2017, and spent the majority of his time assigned to Engine 9 in Pacheco. John was an emergency medical technician, a member of the Con Fire Honor Guard, and a member of the International Association of FireFighters Local 1230. He was also a former U.S. Army soldier for five and a half years, with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. John leaves behind his father, John Martinez Sr., his wife, Sara, and two young children.
