LODD: Ross Valley Fire Captain Rick Addicks
It is with great sadness that the Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775 and the Ross Valley Fire Department announce the passing of our beloved brother, Fire Captain Rick Addicks. Captain Addicks succumbed to his battle with occupational-related esophageal cancer on April 12th, 2024, while at home surrounded by his incredible family.
Fire Captain Rick Addicks was 22-year veteran of the fire service, proudly serving the community as a member of the Ross Valley Fire Department, the Town of Ross Fire Department, and as a volunteer for the Stinson Beach Fire Department. In addition to being a career firefighter, Rick was a practicing attorney who specialized in business law having graduated the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Brother Addicks was deeply involved in the fire service here in Marin. He was an Executive Board Member, Shop Steward, and Labor Negotiator for L1775 and the Ross Valley Firefighters Association. He served on the Marin County Urban Search and Rescue Regional Task Force, TF-1, and the OES Water Rescue Team. Rick was also a founding member of the Marin Professional Firefighters Behavioral Health Team and was a trained Peer Supporter, as well as serving on the North Bay Regional Critical Incident Stress Team as a team lead.
Rick was 55 at the time of his passing and he is survived by his wife Kristen Dowd Addicks, his daughter Skye Addicks, his son Casey Addicks, and his mother Carla Addicks. He was diagnosed with occupational cancer less than a year before his passing.
