LODD: Sacramento Firefighter Tamara Thacher
Sacramento Fire Department and Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 are saddened to announce the loss of one of their own.
Sacramento Firefighter Tamara Thacher passed away on November 26, 2019 after a battle with job-related cancer.
A member of the Sacramento City Fire Department since 1988, Tamara (Tami), was well loved and respected by all her fellow firefighters, colleagues, family and friends. She spent most of her career at Fire Station 5 working as a firefighter and serving the community. Over the span of her 31-year career, she served in many capacities. She was a training drill instructor, Captain, emergency medical technician, plus a role model and mentor for aspiring female firefighters.
Later in her career, Tami realized a need to help serve other members of the department who were struggling with behavioral health issues. She became a peer support counselor, led Sacramento Fire Department's Behavioral Health Unit and helped countless firefighters deal with their personal struggles.
