LODD: Santa Cruz Firefighter/Paramedic Clayton Ogden

Santa Cruz City Local 1716 is saddened to announce the passing of one of its own in the line of duty.

Santa Cruz Firefighter/Paramedic Clayton Ogden was diagnosed with job-related cancer on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.  He succumbed to his disease on August 1.  He was 47 years old.

Brother Ogden was hired as a firefighter with the City of Santa Cruz in 1999.  He was the department’s most senior firefighter, as well as a recipient of the “Firefighter of the Year” award in 2014.  Most recently, Brother Ogden was the recipient of the Santa Cruz City Fire Department’s Medal of Valor for his heroic actions during a police shooting in 2013.  He was also a member of the Tac-Medic team.

Brother Ogden was known for his lighthearted approach to a challenging profession.  He took great passion and pride in serving the community.  His sense of humor and large heart made him a pleasure to work with.  He was a model firefighter in all senses of the term.  He represents the best of what we all strive to be.

He leaves behind his wife, Rebekah, and children Colby, Sam and Lily.

Memorial Information

Funeral services for Brother Ogden will be held at 3PM, August 11th, 2017 in the Yosemite Building of the Merced County Fairgrounds, 900 Martin Luther King Jr Way in Merced

Remembrances

The Ogden Family’s intention is to create a scholarship fund in his namesake.  They ask that, in lieu of flowers, any donations and condolences made on his behalf should be made out to “Clayton Ogden” and sent to:
