Friends Of Camp Sacramento Raise $8,000 For The California Fire Foundation In The Aftermath Of The Caldor Fire

(SACRAMENTO, CA) Friends of Camp Sacramento, the non-profit membership organization working to support the city’s century-old family camp, has selected the California Fire Foundation as the beneficiary of an $8,000 donation, the result of a fundraising drive held in the wake of the Caldor Fire. The devastating blaze destroyed hundreds of homes in rural El Dorado County and displaced tens of thousands of residents in and near South Lake Tahoe.

Camp Sacramento, a family camp in the Sierra Nevada, run by the City of Sacramento, has welcomed families for more than 100 years. The Caldor Fire came perilously close to the cherished site when it raged through the region in August this year. California firefighter crews were able to save Camp Sacramento and surrounding structures after spending days battling the intense flames.

“Thanks to the brave and tireless efforts of California firefighters, 100 years of family memories and Sacramento history have been saved,” said Ben Avey, President of Friends of Camp Sacramento. “This donation is a small token of our gratitude as we look toward endless summers at Camp Sacramento.”

“We are so grateful to receive the donation from Friends of Camp Sacramento,” said Rick Martinez, Executive Director of the California Fire Foundation. “Their generous gift allows us to continue our work supporting California firefighters, their families, and the communities they protect.”

NOTE: A check presentation ceremony will take place on Friday, December 10th at 10:00am at Sacramento Fire Station 43, 4201 El Centro Rd., Sacramento 95834
