Harry R. Butler
Department: San Diego City
Deceased: March 30, 2001
The decision to become a firefighter was the best career choice Harry could have made. He loved the department and the camaraderie his fellow firefighters. During his days off Harry could be found helping other firefighters build their houses. Over time he developed drafting skills and started designing houses for friends on and off the department. Camping with his family and surfing with his son and daughter filled his free time. Harry faced a lengthy battle with cancer with dignity and a positive attitude. His fellow firefighters supported his efforts by donating days off and blood and platelets. Harry felt blessed with the support and friendship shown by his family and fellow firefighters. He was a good man and is missed by all.
