Gerald Francis Hartman
Department: Marysville
Deceased: May 19, 2016
Gerald “Jerry” Hartman grew up across the street from the Live Oak Fire Department, where he watched his father serve as a volunteer assistant chief. He joined the department as a cadet and later was hired on as a full-time firefighter. Jerry worked in Live Oak for several years before being hired by the Marysville Fire Department, where he spent most of his career. During his 20 years with Marysville, Jerry moved up through the ranks and was promoted to chief. Jerry went on to work for American Canyon and Shelter Cove, an area he enjoyed due to his love of fishing. Jerry passed away in May 2016 due to causes associated with job-related heart disease. He is survived by his son and grandson, both of whom are full-time firefighters, carrying on their family’s tradition.
