William “Bill” Baker came to the fire service from law enforcement – he joined a volunteer department while working as a Berkeley police officer and never looked back. Bill began his nine-year career at Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection District, and he worked as an administrative captain who served as the department’s training officer. Bill loved spending time with his family, enjoyed camping and played on the Rodeo Fire co-ed volleyball and softball teams. In August of 1989, Bill succumbed to the effects of job-related cancer.
