Terry Wayne Jacobs
Department: USFS
Deceased: August 04, 2006
Aerial firefighters and ground crews alike mourn the loss of Terry Jacobs, who lost his life while battling the Titus Fire in the Happy Camp Fire complex in Siskiyou County, California. Known as "Jake" to his friends and co-workers, he dedicated his life to a career in aviation, most recently flying the S-64 Sky Crane as a command pilot. Although initially fixed-wing aircraft sparked his interest, he soon transitioned to rotor-wing and flew two tours in Viet Nam doing Combat Assault and was a Battalion Operations Officer. Jake always strived to improve his qualifications, which made him the exceptional pilot he was. From 1975, to his most recent assignment at Happy Camp, Jake specialized in forestry/mountain work and extensive precision heavy-lift/construction/fire fighting and logging. He always found time to help others in many ways, and entertained so many people with his humor and story telling.
