Michael M. Moses’ dedication to public service began in 1977 when he became a lifeguard for Los Angeles County. He went on to join the Santa Barbara City Fire Department in 1984, where he worked through the ranks and eventually was promoted to ladder truck captain. Inspired by his early experience as a lifeguard, Michael formed and trained the first United States Lifesaving Association-certified Ocean Rescue Team for the Santa Barbara City Fire Department. Michael is remembered by those who knew him for his love of the ocean and the enjoyment he received from planting seeds and watching them grow. Michael died in 2016 as a result of job-related cancer. He is survived by his wife, Patricia.
