John G. Murphy joined the San Francisco Fire Department in 1989 and went on to serve the department with honor and distinction for more than 24 years. John’s leadership ability saw him rise to the rank of lieutenant. In this position, he took great pleasure in seeing things done right and ensuring that everyone went home in the morning. John approached his job with a great passion, going out of his way to mentor new firefighters. He is survived by his wife, Kim, and their two children, Marshall and Lauren. John died in 2014 following a battle with job-related cancer.
