Robert “Bob” Praytor was sworn in on November 2nd 1966 as a paid call fireman for the Fallbrook Fire Protection District by Fire Chief William G. Thurber Jr. In 1969 he was hired by the Marine Corps Exchange as an automotive technician. In 1973 he was hired by the Camp Pendleton Fire Department as a dispatcher, and worked up through the ranks to the Base Fire Chief, a position he held from 1989 to his retirement in 2002. He went to work for Cal OES in 2002 as the Deputy Chief of the Firescope Program, and served as Deputy Chief of Operations, Fleet. Bob served in the California Fire Service for 54 years of dedicated around the clock service. Outside of work Bob enjoyed time with his family especially his granddaughter Delaney Lynn, and boating at Lake Havasu. He passed away from a job related injury/illness on February 23rd 2020.
