Charles "Jay" Ross got his start working with CDF and was later hired by the City of Placerville, where he spent the rest of his fire service career - as a firefighter, engineer, captain and training and safety officer. He had a great love for hunting, camping and four-wheeling every summer. He was diagnosed with job-related tuberculosis and encephalitis, an infection of the brain and lungs, which was his cause of death.
