John Tennant’s fire service career is marked by commitment to community, his state and the men and women on the front lines. He served for 28 years in the Pasadena Fire Department, 15 of those as president of Pasadena Firefighters, Local 809. He spent six years as California Professional Firefighters’ 2nd District Vice President. His service continued in 2000, when he was appointed as California State Fire Marshal. In addition to his roles in the fire service, John served as Chairman and Trustee of the Pasadena Fire and Police Retirement System. As state fire marshal, John helped secure $1 million in funding for the first firefighter-specific terrorism response training in the nation. John passed away due to job-related cancer. He is survived by his children, Shawna, Lisa and Brian and his brother Mark.
