Having served the Mountain View Fire department for over 30 years, Battalion Chief John Walsh was a significant leader within his community. Her served as both a teacher and role model for many of the younger firefighters. Alongside Battalion Chief John Fetz, the two have raised the standard of professionalism within the fire service and lived the legacy of "serving others." Chief Walsh succumbed to occupational cancer after fighting valiently in 2000. He leaves behind three sons, Steve, Bob, and John Jr. - all of whom have followed in their father's footsteps and have made careers in the fire service.
