Hank Zavaleta was a devoted firefighter who always put family, friends and acquaintances before himself. He retired as a captain in 2003, after 17 years of service. When he was diagnosed with brain cancer, his true character was revealed, as he diligently forged ahead and never asked, "Why me?" Instead, he became an advocate for others who were newly diagnosed. He relished every moment he had with his family before he lost his battle to job-related brain cancer in 2011.
